He joined Death Eaters because he wanted to save his family. He lowered his wand when he was tryin to kill Dumbledore at the tower. He wanted to join Dumbledore but then Snape showed up and killed Dumbledore. I think he wanted Harry to survive to finish Voldemort. He didn’t let Crabbe and Goyle kill Harry in the Room of Requirements. I really don’t think it’s because he was following Voldemort’s order. He wanted Voldemort to die.
I used to hate Snape. But when I saw this seen the first time I watvhed this movie my view of him changed. I realized the reason he was mean was because the person who he loved never loved him back.

He was mean to Harry because he had to make sure his undercover was a success. And Snape had never been mean at Hogwarts. He was interested in Dark Arts but he never jinx people for fun.
